A dream is to look at the night and see things

Recorriendo librerías antiguas por Múnich, encontré el otro día un libro precioso de la escritora americana Ruth Krauss (Baltimore, Maryland, 1901-1933).
Había oído hablar de él y allí estaba, esperándome. Era incluso más bonito de lo que imaginaba e ilustrado por el genial Maurice Sendak, ¿qué mas se puede pedir?.
«A Hole List to Dig: A First Book of First Definitions» es el título de la obra que data del año 1952 y el libro está publicado por HARPER & BROTHERS Publishers. En la contraportada se dice algo que define muy bien a esta gran escritora. «Miss Krauss has a wonderful imagination, and she always manages to find a focal point which comes right out of the real life of a young child.»
Y esa realidad que transmite mezclada con tanta ternura, ironía y humor hacen de ella una autora irresistible no sólo para los más pequeños sino para todos los que amamos la literatura infantil.
«The Carrot Seed» (1945) es una de sus obras más conocidas, ilustrada por su marido el también escritor de libros infantiles, Crockett Johnson.
Sendak dijo de ella que era un gigante dentro de la literatura infantil y no hay más que abrir uno de sus trabajos para afirmarlo una y otra vez.
